General Care — Hair Accessories & Hair Jewellery

• Store with care — Keep your piece in its original box or in the soft pouch provided, which protects it from dust, sunlight, and scratches.
• Avoid moisture and water — Remove your accessory before showering, swimming, or exercising. Water and humidity can weaken adhesives and dull natural stones. Do not wear or expose your piece to water. Moisture can weaken adhesives, dull stones, and distort delicate materials.
• Keep away from chemicals — Avoid perfume, hairspray, lotions, soaps, oils, and household cleaners. These substances can damage pearls, metals, gemstones, and finishes.
• Remove before activity — Always remove your accessory before exercising or cleaning to prevent snagging, bending, or accidental damage.
• Handle gently — Each piece is crafted with intricate detailing. Avoid pulling, twisting, or placing heavy objects on top of it.
• Clean softly — Use the soft cloth included with your ZAPOTA piece to gently wipe gemstones or beads. Avoid liquid cleaners or chemical solutions.

Ethical Sourcing & Colouring

We monitor our supply chain to ensure that all hair used in our accessories is obtained from ethical and non‑exploitative sources.
To achieve our signature tones, we use a semi‑permanent colour free from ammonia and peroxide, designed to last up to eight washes.

Material‑Specific Care

Sterling Silver

• Clean with a sterling‑silver polishing cloth.
• Avoid chlorine and abrasive paper products.
• Store in a cool, dry place away from light and air to minimise tarnishing.
• For pieces containing pearls, stones, or crystals, use the polishing cloth only — liquid cleaners may damage delicate materials.

Gold‑Plated Sterling Silver

• Store separately to prevent scratching.
• Remove before showering or cleaning.
• Polish gently with a cloth designed for gold or silver jewellery.

Plated Hair Jewellery

• Avoid perfumes, lotions, and scented products — these can react with plating.
• Do not wear during swimming, showering, or beach activities.
• Store in a dry area when removed.
• Avoid friction or contact with hard surfaces.
• If needed, clean with mild, fragrance‑free soap and warm water; pat dry with a soft cloth.
• Avoid chemical jewellery cleaners, which can fade plating over time.

Leather Care (Including Hampstead Hairband)

Only carefully selected leather is used in our pieces. Natural variations, creasing, and subtle irregularities are inherent characteristics that make each accessory unique.

• Avoid water contact on leather components.
• Store away from direct sunlight and humidity.
• Gently wipe with a dry, soft cloth if needed.
• With mindful care, the life of your leather accessory can be extended for years.

Special Care — Hampstead Hairband

Because this piece combines leather with coloured hair, please follow these additional steps:

Before Cleaning

• Avoid water on the leather band and the attachment point.
• Protect the leather with a towel before washing the hair section.
• Do not immerse the entire product in water — only the hair.

Washing the Hair

1. Brush gently with a detangling brush or fingers, from roots to ends.
2. Mix one tablespoon of mild shampoo into cold water.
3. Immerse only the hair section for one minute; agitate gently.
4. Do not rub.
5. Rinse thoroughly in cold water.
6. While slightly damp, apply a small amount of gentle conditioner.
7. Lay flat on a towel to remove excess water — do not squeeze or wring.
8. Do not use a hairdryer or heated tools.
9. Allow the fibre to dry completely before styling or straightening.

Storage

All ZAPOTA accessories come with its original box and soft pouch provided.
Store your piece inside when not in use to protect it from dust, sunlight, and scratches.
